Trick question. What’s your dream? Don’t answer, think about it.

Updated: Jan 11

My dreams were met the very day I was asked to be the fill-in to the fill-in to the fill-in to the morning traffic reporter at Univision 41 over 22 years ago.

The day all morning traffic reporters fell sick leaving chubby, squeaky inexperienced Ericka Pino as the last in the roster was nothing short of a miracle.

I was floating heading back home from my very first live Television appearance. Walking on 5th avenue at 8 am towards Port Authority felt like walking on a clouds. I said to myself in Spanish

¡Diosito, gracias! I did it. I did it,

I have something to show my kids.

Their mom was on tv!

More than 15 years before I would have my first child I dedicated my greatest achieving to Gabriella!

I did it!

All my dreams had come true that day!

After my repeated Internships, auditions and failed tryouts... The Improbable forecast that I would be on television was proven wrong.

Crazy right. I was so happy. So accomplished. I needed nor wanted anything more. My dream was at that very moment accomplished even if a call back never happened.

I WAS CALLED back the very next morning and cover traffic once again.

And the next day I was asked to finish the week (Jesus Christ I didn’t have any clothes! My mom and I had to scramble to Marshalls.)

And next week I was called to finish the month!

faint set in every night and every morning waiting for the call, come back =dream come true on repeat

Three and a half years later. I would be doing weather and traffic 7 days a week!

Before being recruited by a different and much bigger television station I was told, you are the most recognized person on local television.

And my dream was reality, set in stone and "tape".

After my very days on television, the rest of my magical and wonderful years and experiences and accomplishments on the small screen were practically a bonus.

So TODAY 20 plus years later, two weeks into my retirement, when a dear collaborator asks me...

What are your dreams?

I'M STUNNED . And humbled.

And I answered sincerely.

This morning I got up 15 minutes before my kids, I made them pancakes. I watched them eat without rush or panic or need to check email, text or teams.

I don't have to rush to makeup or meeting.

This is my new dream.

Gracias Diosito.
